Juggling three businesses will ultimately lead to burnout, and for Tiffany, that was the case. In 2016, she hit rock bottom, which led her to close two businesses and go on what she describes as her “Eat, Pray, Love” journey. Sh began navigating her own journey of self-discovery and healing, which led her to positioning herself as a keynote speaker and business consultant. Now Tiffany helps others in building sustainable, resilient businesses, while avoiding burnout.
One of the most powerful mindset shifts Tiffany had during this time was reframing her definintion of success. Where she once focused on accolades and financial metrics, she now holds one centered on joy and fulfillment. She advocates for understanding that success includes personal happiness and life balance, something that she learned the hard way.
Preventing and Managing Burnout
Now that Tiffany is in a more manageable role, she’s actively preventing burnout. One way she does this is through CEO Fridays—a term she’s using to dedicate a time slot every week that allows business owners to focus on themselves. Whether it involves spa treatments, mini-retreats, or simply spending quality time with loved ones, these practices can significantly enhance not only your well-being, but your business too.
Burnout isn’t just about exhaustion; it’s when activities you once enjoyed feel burdensome and you no longer recognize yourself. The key to managing these feelings is allowing yourself to feel emotions fully and engage in activities that promote healing.
Building Resilience
Tiffany’s approach to resilience challenges the conventional narrative of “bouncing back.” Instead, she encourages more work around growth and empowerment. Resilience involves accepting and feeling emotions, identifying personal healing practices, and ultimately coming out stronger on the other side.
She shares from personal experiences, including coping with loss and natural disasters, highlighting that resilience means maintaining joy despite life’s challenges. It’s a journey characterized by self-care and sustained personal growth.
Steps to Enhance Resilience
If you’re new to resilience training, Tiffany advises starting small. Identify one practice for feeling emotions and another for promoting healing. These practices might include allowing yourself to cry when needed or integrating meditation into daily routines. Remember, building resilience is a progressive journey, with each step reinforcing your overall well-being.
Tiffany illustrates that a fulfilling life is not a straight line of perfect balance but a series of waves requiring us to surf gracefully. Her experience reminds us that burnout doesn’t mean failure; rather, it’s an opportunity to rewrite our narratives, prioritize self-care, and embrace genuine successes.
