In just under two weeks my drill team girls will take the stage for their last dances together as a team. In just under two weeks I will be running my last show as Director at the school that I have come to call home…
When I started my career as a high school dance and drill team director I thought that this would be it! My dream job with the sweetest girls who work so hard, with an incredible boss who has a true educator’s heart, and a team that has become my second family. The past few years at this school have been some of the best years of my dance and drill team life. I have had incredible students with amazingly supportive and kind parents who have become a huge part of my life and I am so thankful for their friendship. I have a principal who encourages me to be creative, who listens to my crazy ideas about how to make my program the best of the best, and who lets me have stress meltdowns without judgment when needed. I’m lucky, and I know it. In a world where there are many educators who aren’t always appreciated as much as they should be, most days I can’t share that complaint.
I never thought I would be changing my entire life (and those who know drill team directing know that it’s truly not just a job, but a life within itself). Well, it sure is crazy how much can change and where life can take you because here I am taking a huge step (or massive leap) into my photography full time! It was a decision that was insanely difficult to make, and many tears were shed, but I am excited to create an even more dedicated and unique experience for my incredible clients! I’m also happy to have the opportunity to continue to work with dancers through choreography, private lessons, and of course photography- I could never give up the dance life all together!
Even though telling my team was one of the hardest things I’ve done and I hesitated to write about it, I’m glad I’m able to share the news myself! I’m so thankful for the support of my friends and family- especially to my amazing husband Tim who encourages me, pushes me, and believes in me every day. I am so excited to start this new adventure, and I hope that you will all follow along!!
